One of John Brownstone’s biggest kinks is bondage. He loves to tie knots and work rope around a body. I’m…less enthusiastic. I don’t have the patience for it, and I don’t feel the need for bondage the way he does.
But one thing we both agree on is that we love me being restrained in some way.
That might be pinning me to the bed or ordering me to stand still. When we can get a little outside help and make the process of bondage quicker — for the purposes of kinky fuckery — we’re definitely interested. Which is why we were eager to try the Vivid Rainbow bondage set from Liebe Seele. Add to that a leather tawse paddle, and we were more than ready to get our kink on.
What’s in the Vivid Rainbow Set
We received the purple Vivid Rainbow Set to review. It’s more of an iridescent tone than a solid purple with the colors shifting as you move around. The set includes eight pieces:
- Collar and leash
- Cuffs – wrist and ankle
- Blindfold
- Ballgag
- Hogtie
- Alligator nipple clamps
- Flogger
Each piece has a gold metal detailing: the chain on the leash and the nipple clamps, the D hooks on the cuffs, and the connectors for the hogties.
The shimmery purple/iridescent material is smooth and definitely a synthetic material. With rough play, it could become scraped and imperfect — I know because we have a slight scratch on one of the cuffs. Oops, guess we got a bit rough!
The inside of the cuffs, collar, and blindfold are SO FREAKING SOFT. It reminds me of velvet. It’s buttery smooth, creamy on the skin, and never annoyed me or chafed while I wore it.
Even better, the cuffs, collar, blindfold, and ballgag fasten with velcro. This makes putting everything on and taking it off very easy, and it makes sizing a breeze. My wrists are approximately eight inches in circumference, and there is plenty of length for a larger wrist to fit. The same is true with the ankle cuffs.

Playing with the Vivid Rainbow Set
We used everything in the set and in the way we most like to play, in order to test it out for our preferences. Of course everyone plays differently, but hopefully this will give you an idea of what to expect.
Ballgag: I don’t like ballgags without breathable holes built in. My anxiety rises and I feel like I can’t breathe even though I can. This gag is a small, solid rubber ball. I couldn’t wear it long because of the lack of holes, but it didn’t overly stretch my mouth or feel uncomfortable. For those who love a giant ballgag and want that stretch, this likely won’t do it. If you’re a complete newbie to ballgags, this isn’t a bad choice to start with.
Blindfold: I prefer blindfolds that mold to my face — like a solid piece of cloth. Why? Because it’s easy to “cheat” and see down the bottom of a blindfold otherwise, and I don’t want to see. This blindfold allowed me to see a bit until I found the right position over my eyes. Thanks to the inside material, it was really comfortable to wear, and I closed my eyes anyway, so I wouldn’t be tempted to look when the blindfold invariably shifted, as they usually do.
Collar and Leash: Because the collar goes on with velcro, we were able to play around with the exact right fit for both my neck and my anxiety. (If something’s too tight around my neck, I tend to panic.) Again, soft insides meant it was super comfortable. John Brownstone hooked the leash and pulled me around. We don’t usually play like that, but it was definitely sturdy and solid. The chains of all the pieces have heft to them so they don’t feel like they’ll break with a hard tug.
Wrist and Ankle Cuffs: Again, these fit perfectly thanks to the velcro and are super comfortable because of the softness of the material. Each set comes with a chain that you can use to attach the cuffs to one another. John Brownstone took sadistic glee in keeping my ankles chained together and then telling me to get up on the bed.
Nipple Clamps: These are alligator style clamps which are my personal favorite. Yes, the pinch hurts but only at first and then again when they come off. While they’re on, this style is very comfortable for me. Even better, they’re durable enough that JB led me around the room (while blindfolded!), and all I could do was follow his lead and my boobs. I’m used to clamps that slip off my nipples, and even with forceful tugging (OUCH!), these didn’t come off at all.
Flogger: Not gonna lie, the flogger is almost forgettable for me. The handle is beautiful. The falls are thin and slightly stinging upon impact. We have such strong flogger preferences that this was a bit of a non-entity to me. John Brownstone says the weight of the handle is good for a light flogger (which surprised him because he expected it to suck). He sees it as a decent beginner option.
Hogtie: I’m not flexible enough to stay in any hogtie position for long (like the time it would take to use rope), but I can get there, especially if it’s quick. A hogtie connector, like the one included in this set, means I spend more enjoying the position, unable to move, rather than waiting to be tied up. We positioned me on my stomach with my arms behind me and my knees bent. There are other ways to do a hogtie but this seemed most comfortable. Bonus: In that position, he pressed my vibrator against my clit and forced a few orgasms. It was delicious!
This set is beautiful and comfortable and a wonderful surprise for both of us. Buying bondage kits and sets can be a gamble because so many are uncomfortable or fall apart too quickly. The Vivid Rainbow Set did none of those things. For a quick bondage scene, we would definitely pull this out and play with it. My babygirl heart loves how pretty it is.

About That Leather Paddle
Let me not forget to mention the paddle we received, too. It’s made from cow leather, comes in four colors — ours is wine, and made in a tawse style. It’s a thin, light, unassuming paddle, but I know better.
Thin and light tends to mean stinging. And it was. In fact, it stung so bad, I had to ask John Brownstone to go easy on me at first, especially once he revealed THIS new paddle would be used for his birthday spanking. (On his birthday, I receive his birthday spanking plus one to grow on — that was 61 smacks with a stinging paddle this year.)
He started relatively light and, as he usually does, he alternated cheeks. My job was to keep count. He always stops every ten smacks or so. Both to rub my butt and soothe the pain a bit but also, I think, to potentially make it more difficult for me to keep count. I never forget what number I’m on, thankfully, because if I did, we’d have to start over. (He’s such a fucking sadist, and I fucking love it.)
As we crossed the halfway point, he ramped up the intensity. It was still bearable, but the pain was more intense, especially as he struck the same spot more than once.
On smack 61, he went in hard, and I screeched out the final number. My ass was burning and I was satisfied.
Is this leather paddle one I would ask for in the future? No. Too stinging. But will I protest if he wants to use it? Nope. I know he’ll make it good, even as he tortures me with the sting first. But if you only like thud, this one won’t be the one for you.
